Hades by Dino dos Santos

Hades is very dark contemporary blackletter typface for short eye catching headlines. It’s made by type designer Dino dos Santos and a freebie on his type foundry website dstype.com.

Hades-Regular

The most dangerous black, I’ve seen!

Don’t tattoo this typeface – it will hurt you.

Hades does’t come with an extra Free Font License. Maybe writing an new EULA (End User License Agreement) is not the funniest thing for a type designer. But it would be much of help for the end user. So if you want the font for web usage (@font-face linking), please ask Dino dos Santos for permission. I think due to the nature of this free font, Dino will give permissions for web usage too.

My mother is a steampunk girl with curly blond hair.

Hades is a one weight only font but with an extended glyph set (Basic Latin & Latin Etended A). You can set all European Latin based languages. It offers some OpenType features like ligatures and dynamic fractions. The design reminds me of Ernst Schneidlers Ganz Grobe Gotisch from 1933 – one of the first extrem bold blackletter designs produced. But of course Hades is more dynamic combining lots of sexy curves with broken stokes. For my personal taste the spacing is sometimes a bit to tide. For setting German texts some longs_s ligatures would fit well. Technically the font data is produced in a very good quality.

Hades-Regular - text samples
This is a sample text of the Hades-Regular. It’s too bold and can’t perform well on body copy texts.
